How to Use Muse for Your Instagram Marketing

Connect your Instagram professional account to Muse and get an honest read on what is working, plus next week of posts drafted in your brand voice.

1. The short answer

On September 29, 2026 Meta launched Muse for Small Business with access to Instagram professional account analytics, Facebook Pages, and Meta ad accounts, plus a Canva connector for creative. Connect them and ask the question Meta itself suggests: how do I improve my ads and content. Muse analyzes what worked and what flopped, then drafts next week in your brand voice. You approve everything before it posts. Available in the US and Canada right now.

Most small business marketing fails for boring reasons, not creative ones. Posts go out randomly, nobody checks what worked, content takes too long so it stops after two weeks, and boosted posts spend money nobody can account for. This guide builds the feedback loop that fixes all four: audit, draft, approve, measure, repeat. The rest covers the weekly loop, what to connect, and what to watch for.

2. What you need

  • Muse access. You need an account with access first.
  • An Instagram professional account. A personal account will not unlock the analytics Muse reads. Switching is free and reversible in your Instagram settings.
  • Your Facebook Page and Meta ad account. Connected so Muse sees the full picture, organic plus paid.
  • Canva, optional but useful. The connector brings your brand kit into the drafts so visuals arrive on brand instead of as plain text.
  • A sense of your voice. Tell Muse how you sound once, and paste one post you wrote that you liked. The drafts stop sounding generic the moment Muse has a real example to learn from.

3. The method, step by step

The frustrations this loop answers. You post when you remember, and you have no idea what actually worked. Content eats your evenings, so consistency collapses after two weeks and the account goes quiet. When you do get drafts from AI tools they sound like everyone else, nothing like you. You boost a post, money leaves, and nobody can tell you what it bought. Your Canva templates look right but the copy never quite matches. And the background fear: AI slop going out under your business name.

The loop below handles each one. The audit tells you what worked. The voice briefing fixes the generic drafts. Approvals keep your name safe. The weekly rhythm turns consistency from a heroic effort into a habit.

  1. Connect the accounts. In Muse, link your Instagram professional account, Facebook Page, and Meta ad account. Add Canva if you want visual drafts. This is what lets Muse reason from your actual performance instead of generic best practices.
  2. Brief your voice. Tell Muse how you sound in a few lines, then paste one post you wrote that you liked. Be concrete: short sentences, no hype, funny about the work itself. The more specific the briefing, the less generic the drafts.
  3. Ask for the audit. Say: analyze my last thirty days. What worked, what flopped, and why do you think so. Read it against your own Insights to calibrate. Treat the first audit as a second opinion, not gospel. When it keeps matching what your gut already knew, you can start trusting it.
  4. Ask for the plan. Say: draft next week for me, three posts and two stories, in my voice, built on what worked. Meta's own example prompt is close to this. If a draft sounds off, tell Muse exactly what is wrong. Corrections compound fast.
  5. Approve and schedule. Edit what needs your touch, usually the opening lines, approve the rest, and post on your schedule. Nothing goes live without your tap. This is the answer to the slop fear: your taste is the final filter, every week.
  6. Close the loop weekly. Every Monday, ask what the approved posts did. Muse learns what your audience actually responds to. Over a month or two the drafts get noticeably better, because they are built on your data now.

You are my marketing assistant. Here is how we work.
Connectors to use: connect my Instagram professional account, my Facebook Page, and my Meta ad account. If I have Canva connected, use my brand kit and templates for any visual drafts.
My business: [what I sell]
My voice: [describe how I sound in 2 or 3 lines, then paste one post I wrote that I liked]
My audience: [who I am talking to]
Rules: you draft everything. You never post, publish, schedule, or spend ad money without my explicit approval. If a draft sounds generic, tell me what is missing instead of faking it.

Do this in order.
1. Audit my last 30 days. Tell me which posts and ads performed best and worst, and why you think so. I will compare with my own Insights to calibrate.
2. Name the 2 or 3 content themes my audience actually responds to, with examples from my own posts.
3. Draft next week in my voice: [3 posts and 2 stories], built on what worked. Keep each draft tight and specific to my business. No filler.
4. Suggest one small ad test for the week: the audience, the budget I should approve, and what success would look like. Do not launch anything.
5. End with the single metric I should watch this week, and why.

4. The weekly marketing loop

Owners who stick with it settle into a rhythm. Monday is the audit. Ask what last week's approved posts did. Which one earned its keep, which one flopped, and what does Muse think the difference was. A short session, and you start the week knowing instead of guessing.

Midweek is drafts day. Ask for next week's content built on the audit: three posts and two stories in your voice. Read them with your morning coffee. Edit the ones that need your touch and approve the rest.

Then post on your schedule. Nothing goes live without your tap. The calendar stops being the thing that slips, because the work arrives as drafts waiting for approval, not as a blank page waiting for inspiration.

Over a month or two, the drafts get noticeably better because Muse has your actual performance data, not generic best practices. It learns that your audience loves the photos from the shop floor and ignores the motivational quotes, or whatever your version of that turns out to be. That learning is the whole game.

5. What to watch for

This is a week old capability, so treat the first audits as a second opinion, not gospel. Compare against your own Insights for the first few weeks. When the reads keep matching reality, lean on it more.

Keep approval on for everything public. Drafts are cheap and safe. The moment anything posts without your tap is the moment you stop trusting the system, so do not give that moment a chance to happen.

Ad spend stays manual. Muse can analyze your ad account, draft campaigns, and suggest the test and the budget, but launching and spending wait for your explicit approval. And the business connectors are US and Canada only for now, so everywhere else should use the waitlist.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need a business Instagram account?
Yes. A professional account unlocks the analytics Muse reads. A personal account will not give it the data.
Will it post without asking me?
No. Meta says nothing is published without your approval. Drafts wait for your tap.
Can it run my Meta ads?
It can analyze your ad account and draft campaigns. Any spend needs your explicit approval.
What does the Canva connector add?
It brings your existing brand work and context into the conversation, so creative drafts arrive on brand and editable.
I only have a personal Instagram account. What do I do?
Switch it to a professional account in your Instagram settings. It is free, reversible, and it unlocks the analytics Muse needs. Your followers and posts stay exactly as they are.
How do I make the drafts actually sound like me?
Brief your voice once, paste one post you liked, and then correct bad drafts specifically instead of just rejecting them. Tell Muse the opening line is too hype, or the joke does not land. Each correction makes the next batch better.
Can it keep posting while I am on vacation?
It can draft ahead and you can approve a batch before you leave. Scheduling and posting stay in your hands, so nothing goes out that you have not seen.
My audience is tiny. Is the audit still useful?
Yes. Patterns show up early, and the audit also tells you what to test next when the data is thin. Small accounts benefit most from knowing which of their few posts actually worked.
I am outside the US and Canada. What now?
